Please correct me if I'm wrong! So, when I try to do a kick attack with my Estoc wielding assassin, (I always used estoc in souls 2 for that sweet long range sweep in pvp) he does a thrust and quickly jumps back.

I loved the estoc in both Demon's Souls and Dark Souls, but the Dark Souls 2 version seems a bit underwhelming. It has lower scaling and lower base damage than the rapier, and because criticals are much harder to get this time around, the whole "high crit damage" aspect of thrustings swords seems to be a lot less useful.
