Becaue in the dark the lume is not powered, brightness diminishes with the duration in the dark. In tritiun tubes, lume is constantly powered (by the radioactive decay of tritium), so they constantly glow in the dark. As for the brightness, the lume in tritium tubes doesn't need the full initial power of the tritium to reach its maximum brightness.

In darkness you just look at your watch, and it's there, because the watch saw light sometime during the past 6 hours and was already "charged". Luming batons is a lot easier than luming numbers and the numbers on the 126900 were a little slimmed down from the 116900 so applying lume directly on the dial to light up the numerals is no easy task as they're not on larger white gold raised templates.

My Citizen AJ-0100's lume is easily equal to that of my Seiko Black Knight, in longevity. In initial brightness, I believe the edge goes to the Seiko. But after 7 hours of sleep (or thereabouts), the Citizen appears to me to retain more luminosity. Easily readable in the early morning hours. Sold.
