I think Fighter is only worth it if you take Great Weapon Master and even then I'm not sure because of GWM's accuracy penalty. Warlock 3/Oathbreaker 9 (for more spell slots + aura of hate) should offer a balance between eldritch blast (3 (d10+5) from level 11)) and melee weapon attacks (2 (d8 or d10 or d12 + 10 + smite) from level 10).

Take the mage armor invocation, build 16 dex, use bracers of defense early on. Cloak of protection, ring of protection, all that stuff. Amulet of the harper allows you to use the shield spell.
