However the best thing about dayZ is that there is a server for everyone depending on how you want to enjoy the game. The standalone is for people who have played the mod and are ready to "move ahead" and help shape the game to what it aims to be, the reason it's so popular is all the people who have already played and loved the mod "went on" with the Standalone. But even as a MOD, DayZ mod is far more polished than the standalone right now.
