When the engine is fired up cold it sounds perfect, but once it gets to about 140-150 the noise starts and seems to correlate to oil pressure, eg. once the rpm is above 1200 the majority of it goes away. I know it’s an old thread, but the L5P in the 2020 is the noisiest, most unpleasant Duramax to date. The thumping, ticking, screeching, and what I’m assuming is injector knock, is almost Unbearable. What you are describing is the common type writer tick. Very common after an oil change. Basically you get some air trapped in the lifter oil passage and it takes a bit of time for it to work out.
