How it works is lightning staff light attacks (just pressing the mouse button and not holding it) do not get buffed whatsoever by anything light attack related. Whether be flat damage or % damage. Edit: Thanks, both the below advice worked. Shoot 3 random keys, wait a sec and then enter in a new code. I usually step away from the lightning area then walk back and do the correct steps. If you messed one up, make sure 3 keys are lit up and then walk away. I believe you don't have to start the entire step again, just the sequence you were on.

When you're using a lightning staff you should always light weave unless you want to do a full heavy. It's only the fire/cold staffs that have an effective medium weave.
