1. This is a low-angst, tropey rom-com in the vein of Classic Hallyu. I’ve heard some people say that King The Land is old-fashioned – but that’s the thing. For many viewers, that’s why this drama feels so effortlessly appealing. I get that this show might not appeal to everyone.Here are a couple of things that I think would be useful to keep in mind, in order to maximize your enjoyment of your watch: 1. It’s not pretty. What I mean is, unlike many other kdramas, that serve up sanitized, glossy story worlds, this show serves up its drama world in all of its gritty, unvarnished glory. 2.THE SHORT VERDICT: Show works out to be a solid homage to the xianxia genre, while still managing to be its own thing. And, as its own thing, Show manages to stick to its internal mythology, while mixing its more dramatic arcs with spots of comedy and levity, and remains interesting and engaging, all through its 20 episodes.
