Completed an over night trip to Mt. Whitney Summit starting on Saturday June 16 and summiting and descending on June 17. Whitney Portal to Trail camp is great and clear. There is one part with about a foot of snow on a flat area and it's well packed to cross just before trail camp. Many people are using the 99 switchbacks.
Make sure you include any scented toiletry items as well. Your best bet in the evening is the lockers in the day use area around the pond. Of course no one can really predict the weather that far out, but in general Sept. is a good month to visit/hike. I actually prefer it to all other months for a number of reasons: - I normally spend two or more days at Mammoth Lakes to acclimate prior to attempting higher peaks.
