My G2 has the serial number in 3 places, 1 Under the frame in front of the trigger guard, 2 on the right side of the slide and 3 on the barrel on the side of the ejection port. I did buy a 4 inch barrel for it from Taurus for the G3 and it does not have a serial number on it. Take another good look at the serial number under bright light and see if there is any possibility that a letter or number can be something different than it initially appears. For example - G vs 6, A vs 4, etc. You can ask Taurus what format the serial number might look like for this model (so many letters followed by so many numbers.)
