I would recommend building the furniture you need the most yourself, then letting your steward take care of the rest; it's cheaper that way.Even with a steward and a housecarl those bandits are a real pain. Almost makes me wish for being able to build walls and other defenses/traps around my homestead like in Fallout 4.
