I like this thread. My DS is in similar boat. We are OOS (NJ), and my son received 20K per year merit from Pitt (BME in Swanson). The reason we are very interested in Pitt is its resources for Pre-Med. He also got admitted in SUNY Binghamton with ~15K per year merit, which ends up cheaper COA than Pitt, but we are leaning more towards Pitt at the moment. At first we think Pitt is affordable by looking at past tuition rate. However, look at new tuition rate, it seems a bit pricy comparing to other OOS schools that S24 got admitted. The reason we fell in love with Pitt after visit is the medical resources and school size. Back in 2019 it was not uncommon for high stat in-state kids to get between $10K-25K a year at Pitt. My S19 did. I haven't seen anything like is since. @TheVulcan kid had all the stats but did not get the Pitt merit, neither did the #2 and #3 kids in my S19's HS class. They ended up at Notre Dame and Case with better merit offers than Pitt.

A student may receive a March 1ish honors college admission and no merit at all, while another student who is not in the honors college does receive merit.
