Guess what, the lower half of the bolt interferes with the hammer strike. This expierment was done on a 1949 336RC, it came without crossbolt, no trigger block, only half cock and two piece pin. I replaced the two piece with a one piece. It's a 1956 vintage. In my unbiased opinion, the 39a is about the finest 22 lever gun ever built. $600 is a fair price if in good condition. If you get the chance to take it apart before buying, it's easy to disassemble and worth a look at the internals. Simply unscrew the the screw on the right side of the frame.

Idid the hammer strut modification and took about .030 off the rear face of the firing pin. Clipped 2 coils off the mainspring. It has helped. Still not 1" with the couple of different ammo I've tried. ,but a definite improvement. Even with the 2 coils off the hammer spring and the firing pin shortened a bit, it gives the rims a hard blow.
